Al Mouj Beach Park

Muscat, Oman

An existing neighbourhood park that was inwards looking and didn’t address its major location, ‘the beach’ or the needs of it many visitors, the families and children who required enjoyment. It needed a fresh look and after considerable consultation a concept design based primarily on their place values was developed.

The design celebrated the Omani sea culture by blending the design of all structures such as the beach kiosk and toilet block representing traditional fishing pots, while the play areas were aimed to entice exploration and adventure through the seaward positioning of a timber fishing ship and timber pole maze playground.

To compliment the privacy and modesty of Omani culture, Beach huts were erected along side a beach side grassed family area where families could enjoy the beach without getting sand over their clothes, while others could enjoy the sparking waters of the Oman sea.

This park became a focal community destination that increased the sense of value to the community and the project’s residential brand.
